Nighttime Closures Planned on the Market Street (Route 3012) East Bridge Between Harrisburg and City Island

Lighting study to be performed; west span will be open to emergency vehicles


Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that nighttime closures are planned for the Market Street (Route 3012) east bridge connecting the City of Harrisburg and City Island. The closure is needed so a lighting study can be performed related to the project to rehabilitate both east and west spans of the bridge. The west span connecting Wormleysburg in Cumberland County with City Island will be open to emergency vehicles only.

Weather permitting, the bridge will be closed from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM the nights of Monday, May 6, and Tuesday, May 7.

Detours will be in place during the closure. Travelers heading west from the east (Dauphin County) side of the closure should take Second Street in Harrisburg north to Forster Street, turn left on Forster Street to cross the Harvey Taylor Bridge to the west shore, turn right onto Second Street, turn right onto Stella Street, then right onto Front Street to proceed to Market Street.

Travelers heading east from the west (Cumberland County) side of the closure should take Front Street north to Elm Street, turn left on Elm Street to N. Second Street, turn right on N. Second Street and continue to the Harvey Taylor Bridge, turn right to cross the Harvey Taylor Bridge to the east shore, then turn right onto Front Street to proceed to Market Street.
