Community Development / Parks & Recreation Committee

At one time, the Borough Council had separate Community Development and Parks / Recreation Committees. The two have since been combined into the Community Development / Parks & Recreation Committee, charged with oversight of the Borough’s parks and park activities. In addition, the Committee works closely with the business community on revitalization projects.

Honoring Lemoyne’s Indigenous Heritage

Archaeological excavations in Memorial Park uncovered a 17th-century Susquehannock village, revealing a palisade, longhouse, and thousands of artifacts. This discovery, prompted by a Norfolk Southern Railway project, deepened our understanding of the region’s early inhabitants and led to the site’s eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places.

The Borough of Lemoyne has since commemorated this rich history with a historical marker, thanks to the efforts of Council Member Sue Yenchko. Future plans include exploring ways to further interpret and share the story of the Susquehannock people through park displays and potential artifact exhibits.

A CRPOS Plan is a plan for the future. It involves research, public input and analysis. The Plan that evolves identifies the methods, resources, organizational capacity and capital investment needed for short- and long-term recreation and conservation goals for the community. The planning process includes inventory of existing conditions and facilities, substantial citizen involvement, analysis of issues and community needs, and specific recommendations that set forth actions, priorities and cost.
